One of the goals of the RPI is to increase capacity and teach new, sustainable technology skills to in-country staff. GEO/Graphics, Inc. provides on-site GIS and GPS training in each of the RPI countries. During these week-long, full-day classes, staff members learn the fundamentals on GIS data types, cartography, queries, and spatial analysis. Similarly they also learn how to operate a GPS, collect field data, and process the data back in the office. Follow-up visits are performed yearly to reinforce the learning and support the staff. These new skills will not only empower in-country staff to complete tasks for the RPI project, but the skills learned will benefit individual careers and future projects as well.
